Hon. Haji Mohammad Younus Mohmand, Representative of the Federal Association for Economic Development and Foreign Trade (BWA) in Afghanistan, participated by official invitation in the 2026 International Conference on the Development of Trade and Economic Cooperation among Sichuan, South Asia, and Southeast Asia, held in Chengdu, People’s Republic of China.
The important international conference brought together senior officials from the Sichuan Provincial Government, representatives of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), officials from the Sichuan branch of CCPIT, representatives of the China Chamber of International Commerce, ambassadors, the President of the European Chamber of Commerce, the President of the SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry, prominent investors, business leaders, and representatives from China, South Asia, and Southeast Asia.
The conference focused on further strengthening trade, investment, industrial cooperation, and regional economic connectivity among participating countries and regions.
In his address, Hon. Haji Mohammad Younus Mohmand highlighted Afghanistan’s broad investment opportunities and emphasized that, الحمدلله, under the leadership of His Excellency the Supreme Leader of Afghanistan, alongside the efforts and guidance of government authorities and with the support of the Afghan people and the country’s committed private sector, Afghanistan has, after more than four decades, achieved greater security, stability, economic progress, and transparency, creating a more suitable and reliable environment for long-term investment and economic cooperation.
He also shared his vision regarding the development of the Wakhan Corridor, emphasizing that this strategic corridor has the potential to establish a direct connection between China and Afghanistan and, through Afghanistan, Iran, and Türkiye, provide a more direct land route to Europe.
According to Mr. Mohmand, the development of the Wakhan Corridor would further strengthen regional connectivity, expand trade and investment, enhance the efficiency of supply chains, and create new economic opportunities for countries across the region.
He further highlighted Afghanistan’s significant investment potential in sectors including mining, infrastructure, renewable energy, agriculture, manufacturing, logistics, and the automotive industry, among many other areas.
He emphasized that Afghanistan is ready to further expand its economic relations with global investors on the basis of mutual interests, sustainable cooperation, and shared prosperity.
